Wild Writes: Writing Workshop
Since it’s February and love is in the air (whether we like it or not), in this workshop we’ll take inspiration from some of the greatest love letters ever written.
-
“I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way.”
― Vita Sackville-West
Long before we proclaimed our love for each other with heart emojis and text messages, there were letters. Long, handwritten missives filled with eloquent prose. Letters that read like songs expressing burning affection and deep desire. History is filled with these letters from all types of relationships, even among best friends.
Since it’s February and love is in the air (whether we like it or not), in this workshop we’ll take inspiration from some of the greatest love letters ever written. They describe a love that’s turbulent, stolen, unrequited, certain, and pure. But what they all have in common is language that paints a portrait of heartfelt emotion. Of course, you don’t have to write about love at all. The beauty of writing to a prompt, is that you can go wherever inspiration takes you. We’ll simply use excerpts from these beautiful letters to prompt some original writing of our own. No writing experience necessary. Just a willingness to play. -

Wild Writes: Writing Workshop
There are certain notes that strike a chord and reverberate in our ears, brains, and hearts forever. In this workshop, we’ll use sound and music to inspire our writing.
-
"Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it."
—Stevie Wonder
We all know the feeling of hearing a song or a certain sound and immediately being transported to another time and place. Whether it’s the angsty song you listened to on repeat in your teenage years, the high-pitch whistle of a tea kettle, the sorrowful coo of a mourning dove, or bona fide laughter – there are certain notes that strike a chord and reverberate in our ears, brains, and hearts forever. In this workshop, we’ll use sound to inspire our writing. I’ll offer a variety of auditory prompts throughout the workshop, and we’ll write whatever is sparked in memory or imagination. No writing experience necessary. Just a willingness to play. -

Join me for a fun collaboration with Amy from Lightly Guided on Saturday 1/11. In this Numerology Writing Circle, we’ll learn all about the energy of the year 2025. For us numerology newbies, Amy will offer a quick intro before diving into the themes we’ll encounter this coming year. Then I’ll offer writing prompts around those themes. The prompts are meant to serve as inspiration - an invitation to write whatever comes to you, whatever needs to be written in the moment. Spoiler Alert - the theme is largely around letting go - a very juicy theme for creative writing. One of the things I love about writing to prompts is that it is the very practice of letting go. So just by writing together in this circle, we’ll be getting into the energy of 2025. And we’re sure to make a few discoveries along the way.
No pre-writing necessary. We’ll write together in the circle, everyone will get a chance to read (reading is always optional), and we’ll respond to each other with positive, supportive feedback. Then we’ll close the circle by celebrating all of the space we’re making for something new to come in. No writing experience necessary - just a willingness to play.
Space is limited so sign up to reserve your spot.

Wild Writes: Joy
In this workshop, we’ll use our writing practice to sink deeply into the feeling of joy.
-
In this workshop, we’ll use our writing practice to sink deeply into the feeling of joy. The benefits of joy are endless and widely researched, but experiencing the fullness of joy doesn’t always come easily. As psychologist, Dr. Rick Hanson says, “The mind is like Velcro for negative experiences and Teflon for the positive ones.” But we can cultivate more joy in our lives with practice. This is where writing comes in. Writing about moments of joy can deepen both our joy practice and our writing practice because both rely on paying careful attention. By capturing these moments with words, we stretch ourselves as writers and we feel into and savor joy which is a boundless gift. But don’t worry, I’ll offer prompts to help get us started. We’ll write together, read together, support each other with positive feedback, and I’m willing to bet we’ll laugh together too.

I’m leading this workshop as a part of Write Around the World, a fundraiser Amherst Writers & Artists holds every year to raise money for their social justice programs. The organization is deeply rooted in social justice and has spent decades honoring and celebrating the voices of hisorically marginzlied people. Tickets to all sessions are $20, $30, or $40 - your choice. All proceeds go directly Amherst Writers & Artists.
Wild Writes: Writing Your Birth Story
In this writing circle, we’ll write, share, and celebrate our birth stories – moving our stories from our bodies onto the page and into the circle where they will be received with love, acceptance, and admiration.
-
Of all the stories that make up a life, childbirth is one of the most profound. In this writing circle, we’ll write, share, and celebrate our birth stories – moving our stories from our bodies onto the page and into the circle where they will be received with love, acceptance, and admiration.
Birthing a child is a beautiful rite of passage and writing your story can be a powerful way to help you process your experience. It can help you see your own strength and power. And it can invite healing into the tender places or your unique experience.
This circle is for self-identified mothers who have given birth. There is not one way to give birth and all birth stories are welcome. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed since your baby was born. No writing experience is necessary.
